Penske Truck Leasing Byron Center, Michigan, Location Received LEED Gold Certification
The Penske Truck Leasing location in Byron Center, Michigan, received its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification. The building’s roof features a 216-kW DC PV system of solar panels. This location has achieved a direct reduction in Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. It employs 100% renewable energy sourced from solar energy that is consumed and purchased renewable energy certificates to offset any utility usage from the grid.
Among the location’s sustainability features:
- Energy efficiency cost savings of nearly 63%
- By cost, 38% renewable energy generation
- No outdoor irrigation and a 42% indoor water use reduction
- Whole-building life-cycle assessment was completed
- Dedicated onsite storage and collection of recyclables
- The recycling of operational waste streams that include batteries, e-waste, tires and oil
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is a framework for identifying, implementing and measuring green building and neighborhood design, construction, operations and maintenance. LEED is a voluntary, market-driven, consensus-based tool that serves as a guideline and assessment mechanism.
